The 1/1 Scale of the RX-78 Gundam Prototype is finally near it’s final stages as the workers adds the final touches to the massive statue that is about 18 meters (or 30 ft) in height.
The Gundam is actually built to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Gundam, and the original RX-78 Gundam was chosen to be built, out of all the Gundams in many different series.
The statue of the Gundam is actually part of a 3 phrase “Always Beginning” project to celebrate the 30th anniversary. The first phrase, which is the statue itself, is called “Real G“. The second, which will be held at August’s Gundam Big Expo convention, is called the “Feel G“. The last phrase is called “Soul G“, and is actually a music event for the Gundam franchise.
The statue will be available for free public viewing for a length of 2 months at the Shiokaze Park on Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba island.
If you’re interested, you can always head over to Yahoo! Japan’s website to check out the “in-the-making” videos of the Gundam. Be aware that you will need Microsoft Silverlight to watch these video.
To be honest, the Gundam looks pretty nice thus far. Too bad that the Gundam isn’t exactly movable. But hey, a man can dream, can’t he?
