While it is certainly true that a huge number of the world has at least been exposed to anime/manga once in their live, it is really surprising that there will be academic books based on these topics.
It is true, though, the interest of these topics have soared over the last few years, as more and more people are beginning to be exposed to these things, and many of them have treated it as part of their lives. I doubt any teenagers these days will say that they haven’t watched an episode of Pokemon before.
Although, I must say, these books aren’t going to be easy read. There’s a chapter online for a little preview, and I only scanned through it briefly. It is like a total analysis of the story between Beauty and the Beast and Cardcaptor Sakura. Hey, don’t look at me like that, that’s how they did the comparison!
I don’t know how similar those two stories can get… but meh!
The three different books that is going to be on sale.
There’s a total 3 of such books that will be released in the US Market. These 3 books deals with different things, and they are actually quite an interesting read, if you can stand a lot of text.
For me? I’ll stick to light novels, thank you very much.
Other than that, I had a theory formed up in my thoughts just now. With the birth of the academic books, is there going to be a subject about this anytime soon? I mean, people actually studied to make these books, right?
For those that are interested in the what the books may contain, you can visit the link stated in the source.
However, if any of them comes out to Singapore, I think I’ll probably get Reading Japan Cool: Patterns of Manga Literacy and Discourse. Looks kind of cool to me.
