There’s no denying how popular K-ON! is these days. I mean, the newest album, Hōkago Teatime, had topped the Orion charts and is almost the first anime album ever to top the charts.
Then, there’s also the upcoming album called K-ON! Band Yaro yo! (or translated as Let’s Create a Band!) is quite a nice addition to the vast amount of K-ON merchandises, as it features quite an amount of items, ranging from score sheets to exclusive manga panels.
Now, K-ON had almost topped the charts for amount of sales for Blu-Ray discs on the Orion’s Blu-Ray charts. Currently ranked #2 in the overall Blu-Ray sales chart, K-ON has also claimed the title of “Best Selling Anime on Blu-Ray in Japan”.
Ranked #1 is Evangelion 1.0. Not surprising, since Evangelion has been in the industry for quite sometime and has gotten some pretty hardcore fans, judging from the reactions from Evangelion 2.0 movie.
The DVD version of K-ON hasn’t done as well as it’s Blu-Ray counterpart, selling only 8,000 copies to debut at #7 on the charts. The Blu-Ray, however, had sold an impressive 33,000 copies to debut at #2, overtaking the much popular Macross Frontier F and The Dark Knight.
But still, K-ON. Man, this is perhaps one of the most successful anime ever made. Maybe this is why Kyoto Animation went for Endless Eight Haruhi?
