Blizzard Finally Response: “SC2′s Lan Is No Big Deal”

sc2

In a recent interview with Blizzard executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo, Kotaku had reported that Pardo and the entire Blizzard team had already agreed on “No LAN” for SC2, as they considered LAN as “not much of a deal” if they happen to leave it out of the game in the final product.

The lack of LAN in the game had spurred on quite an amount of internet rage, as well as a petition that had over 100k signs as of now. It’s a rather touchy subject, especially when you’re taking it directly to the vice president of game design for Blizzard.

However, when asked if LAN is ever going to be introduced in SC2, Pardo simply said that everyone else (his development team) had accepted the fact that SC2 would not have a LAN mode. He knows that the general public is going to be angry over this, but he had also commented that “no one would know how much of a deal until the game comes out”.

The Starcraft team firmly believes that LAN is not much of a deal, though.

There’s a lot of people out there I think that are just afraid that they’re suddenly not going to be able to connect to the internet tonight and they won’t be able to play. I actually think that case is extremely rare, and I think we’re going to be okay.”

However, there are always the case of LAN parties. You know, getting together and have some massive LAN gaming, instead of trying to connect to the internet. Pardo knows this, and he had said that these are legitimate issues that is going to be addressed over time. While there is no real word on how the whole thing would work, he had mentioned that it might be possible that the new Battle.NET service would be able to detect your connection and determine if you’re close to each other. If you are close to one another, it’s might be possible to set up a peer-to-peer game.

While the new Battle.NET service sounds promising, I have no idea how would the peer-to-peer game work. Dawn of War 2 was one game that was shipped without LAN, but look at it now, it had included LAN mode in it’s latest patch. LAN “not much of a big deal”?

EDIT: Okay, so I was wrong about the whole LAN thing on DoW2, but still, who the heck doesn’t want LAN in their game anyway?! (thanks nzrock!)

Please!

I completely AGREE with anyone who thinks, CORRECTLY, and says that this game SHOULD HAVE LAN SUPPORT, it is

ridiculous to have a game that cannot be played without LAN SUPPORT.

-If you buy the game, you should be allowed to play it, regardless of internet support. Considering that you have

    payed for the game.

-Piracy, is just a new way for companies to get you to subscribe to an account and repeat buying something over and

    over again….

-If piracy cannot be stopped, don’t punish real gamers, by eliminating LAN support…

TO EVERYONE WHO THINKS THAT ITS OK, TO HAVE TO BE ONLINE TO PLAY THIS GAME IN ANY FORM, after you have purchased

it……………….The real question is: What are you going to do when the company says, ok…… NOW, there is

going to be a… SUBSCRIPTION FEE, to play any game associated with B.NET, even single player games??

That is the REAL QUESTION, b/c it may not be talked about for SC2….but if there are no objections now then that’s

what the FUTURE of gaming will be…….

Ask yourself…why would a respectable game designer, not include something as simple as LAN SUPPORT into a game??

Everyone knows its not a difficult programing task, and won’t take much, if anything its going to cause more issues

to leave this feature out of the game.

-The original Starcraft is obviously one of the greatest RTS games ever made. I have been playing this game off/and

on since it was first released, and have personally purchased this game almost a dozen times due to scratched CDs,

or to put on multiple computers for LAN play….

    - WHY is Blizzard becoming disconnected with the gamer community, what is behind this horrible customer service and

    GREEDY corporate marketing strategy?……….

-Believe me MORE gamers than you think will boycott THIS, paying for every game on Bnet, will be the downfall of

classic gaming and will but an END to the reign of Blizzard as a respectable gaming co.

I seriously have never ever played a Starcraft game EVER (it was never really my thing) and having a korean for a flatmate doesn’t really make things easy for me.

But yea, even so, I gotta say that the second one is really making me tempted to make the plunge once it hits, especially if my flatmate buys a copy (and he will)

He says that I should get my feet wet with the first one but I’ve grown into such a graphics-whore now that I get put off by the old skoolness :P
