Think Blu-Ray can hold the most data in a single disc in the world? Well, maybe, not for another five to six years from now.
A team of researchers situated at Australia has recently unveiled on a new kind of DVD Technology that would allow consumers to pack about 2,000 (!!) movies into one single DVD.
According to the researchers, by using nanotechnology is creating these DVDs, it is possible to improve the data storage of the discs by 10,000 times the first DVD could contain. I won’t bore you with the technical aspects, but just do note that these discs can actually beat Dual Layer Blu-Rays by a huge margin. One of these discs can easily mean ten or more Dual Layer Blu-Rays.
The researchers are still currently working out on the maximum read and write speed for the DVD. They had also came to an agreement with Korean company Samsung, which is one of the world’s biggest electronics company. From what they believe, we can probably expect the technology to be commercialized in about 5 years time.
Now that discs are coming out with more storage, I truly wonder when will they take over external hard-disk’s place as the portable storage device.
