Back for more Vocaloid love for our most “Beloved” notcliche~

I am really happy. Do you know why? No, you don’t need to say…I am sure you noticed that in Netto’s AFA summary includes the picture of some cute Nendoroid version of Miku, Rin and Len. But what really made me happy is that I have brought some Vocaloid figurines~!!

Well, enough of me. Let’s get on to today’s topic at hand.

Firstly, I am going to showcase the two models I’ve brought at AFA. But the picture quality sucks for the camera was only 4 megapixels. So I am very sorry about it. I thought of using the pictures of other sites, but meh…What good is it if it wasn’t those that I brought?

Last but not least, I have introduced Miku to notcliche in my first post, so let’s move on to Vocaloid Second Generation Serial 02, the Kagamine twins!

The images are rather big and the quality isn’t perfect..But please bear with it for the time being until a good camera is available.

I wouldn’t say the figurine’s quality is perfect, but it is good. Most of the details are correct, despite being mass-produced. There are more models out there, but they are most likely sold out and is a rarity, you can only get them if there is a willing seller.

And now, for Rin. Most of you wouldn’t know who Rin is until you read the later part of this post. But you might find it strange…If I have opened Miku’s box and let her out, why not Rin? Well…I want to, but there are other forces at work that is holding me back!

And that’s it for my ranting, for now. Let’s move on to the real topic at hand.

I was originally intending for this article to be posted on 27 December, but I feel like writing it now.

Released on 27 December 2007, let me introduce to you the addition of the newest Vocaloid 2 family! Let’s welcome Kagamine Rin/Len (鏡音リン・レン) to notcliche!

Their family name (Kagamine/鏡音) means Mirror Sound, or Sound of the Mirror. Which is actually quite true, as does their name. Rin(リン) means left in Japanese and Len(レン) means right. Their names are a pun and they are sometimes known as the left and right side of a mirror.

When a sneak preview of Serial 02 was released to the public, only Rin was seen. And many people believed that Serial 02 will also be another female voice vocal. But on December 27, 2007…Len was introduced as well, along wih Rin. Together, they are released as Vocaloid 2 Serial 02 at the same price as Vocaloid 02 Serial 01, but with two voice bank instead. As the two of them are twins, their voice sample comes from the same person too.

The voice sample was generously provided by Asami Shimoda(下田 麻美), who acts as the voice for the Futami twins in The Idolmaster. Also, they are considered the more advance version of Vocaloid 02 due to the more human-like voice.

The Kagamine twins are also drawn by Kei himself. How Serial 02 contains two voice bank is a mystery, but some believed that it is due to Asami-san’s pitch. According to fellow Otaku freaks, the Futami twins in The Idolmaster sounded slightly different, this may explain why Rin and Len sounded different, yet share very similar tone. However, in terms of voice quality, I shall say that Rin’s voice is better than Len’s voice, which somehow or another, irritates me. But it is your choice to think otherwise.

Also, an Act 2, which is like an expansion set of Serial 02 was released on July 2008 and were given free of charge to users who had purchased Vocaloid Second Generation Serial 02 ; Kagamine Rin/Len. The expansion disc in install a different software that does not affect the original version at all, and is simply a more “Human” voice bank. The players can opt to use either the original or the new voice bank or both at the same time. Depending on what kind of music you’re making, the more “Human” voice bank may be more useful.

They also act as a cameo in Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, along with Miku.

If any of you go onto the net and type Kagamine Rin/Len, you might find a picture of Rin and Len with a bulldozer, with Rin riding it and Len being squashed. How the idea came about was widely thanks to Crypton as well as the Vocaloid community. Some Vocaloid fans suggest jokingly that Rin was trying to get rid of Len when the sneak preview was out, hence the reason why only Rin was in the sneak preview. But the bulldozer only came about when they started brainstorming on how Rin would try to get rid of Len.

Taking note of what Rin wears (Cool looking with some punk-like style), an Otaku was enlightened and presented the idea of Rin using a bulldozer to squash Len. And this would be the result!

(Note that you see another guy at the back flattens by Rin’s bulldozer, his name is Kaito and is a First Generation Vocaloid. More will be covered on them next time…)

Poor Len…But at least Rin shows that she care about her victi-…I mean brother…Yeah, brother. So, never ever get on to the bad side of Rin…Who knows what she would do to you?

But hey! The twins are cool to be with; there are lots of awesome videos on them too! I will link some to notcliche on my next post, till then…Why not find out more about them in the mean time? Boy, you may find out more what whacky ideas the Japanese has involving how evil Rin is!
