Slowly moving to the Wii Platform.
In a summary done by Inside Games, it is reported that Capcom has plans to moving an extremely versatile and power engine which was used to develop both RE5 and Lost Planet 2 to the Nintendo Wii.
The engine, an internally coded MT Framework is probably one of the most powerful multi-platform engine in the world to this date, as the engine can easily be adapted into both PS3 and Xbox 360.
Having the engine being adapted into many different platforms will enable Capcom to save in production costs, as well as increasing overall efficiency. It is estimated that simultaneous development projects will save Capcom up to 1/5 in development costs, as well as improving efficiency by 1/3. A pretty large sum!
Of course, you and I wouldn’t be interested in what the technical details are; since that’s the jobs of games programmers, so for simplicity’s sake, just think of it this way. If the MT Framework does get imported to more consoles in the future, we’ll probably receive more games from Capcom. Not only that the MT Framework being ported over to the Wii might just mean that it will received some pretty high-ends from Capcom very soon.
Capcom would also sell licenses to the MT Framework to game developers in the near future, so that Wii can enter the arena of high-end gaming just as the rest of the consoles in the market are.
