China’s Sci-Fi Animation Copies Macross & Gundam?

Doesn’t it look extremely familiar to you?

Apparently, after ripping off from Naruto and Digimon, China thinks that it’s time for them to move onto something more Sci-Fi like, something like mecha waging wars in space!

The product? Astro Plan, which doesn’t just sound a little ugh but also features some pretty interesting art and concept!

Many fans of Macross and Gundam can’t help but notice that the upcoming animation from China bears some extremely interesting details that looks like what Gundam Seed and Macross Frontier had shown. I’m sure picture speaks a thousand words, so I’ll leave some pictures for you.

Chinese fans talking about the upcoming “Astro Plan”. Talks about hoping that the voices doesn’t suck, as well as the lame name it has.

In case pictures aren’t enough, you can check out a demo video of Astro Plan itself.

As you would probably have noticed, the animation of China isn’t really… fluid. I admit, their glowing mecha effects looks pretty cool, but asides from that, I really find no redeeming qualities that this Astro Plan has.

Well, there is the little detail that it’s produced by a subsidiary of the Hunan TV station. In China the people know that any kind of high budget TV series (which scifi definitely belongs under) must be made by CCTV or it’s going to come out turning like substandard trash.

Personally I welcome them in trying out some stuff they don’t normally do. Scifi isn’t usually a Chinese things, and it’ll take some years of practice before they can start getting it right.

It would have redeeming features if there were shaolin robots, or robots jumping up on high trees, or a Jackie Chan robot maybe ? But space with guns ? Naaah.
