As many would agree, one of the biggest highlights of EOY 2009 would be the evening’s concert of Makino Yui’s and I’ve got no doubt that the concert is the most awesome and engaging one that I’ve ever attended in my whole 18 years.
Why? It’s because of the fact that the organizers had went the extra mile to make the evening extremely memorable, for both the artiste and the audience. Not to mention that Yui herself was just simply amazing during the concert.
Due to the fact that no photography were allowed during the whole course of the concert, I’m resorted to recycling some of the photos that was taken during the mini-concert. Please pardon me on that!
Other than that, seating for the concert begun as early as 6.50pm and the concert officially started at 7.00pm. During the one half and hour concert length, Yui sang a couple of songs (such as Euforia as an opening song) and proceeded to sing a couple more from other series, such as Tsubasa Chronicles. While she did revisit some of the songs that she had sang in the past, a good number of the songs that were sung during the concert are upcoming songs that are yet to be released.
Some of the song includes:
- Euforia (both in piano and non-piano ver)
- Yokogao (piano ver)
- Yume no Tsubasa (piano ver)
- Fuwa Fuwa ♪ (non-piano ver)

Yui has been playing the Piano since she was four.
There are actually two segments to the concert, with the first one without piano, and the second one with the piano. I can’t really say which one I like more, simply because both kinds of music were equally nice, and I had really enjoyed myself during that 1h 30mins.
Nearing the end of the concert, the emcee came out to ask her a few questions — some of them, rather embarrassing too — and the audience had lots of laughter when she flustered to answer some of them. However, one of the most awesome moments of the concert just has to be this: when Yui was about to play her piano piece from a movie called “Love Letter” — which dates back when she was just 8 years old, and as a present for the audience — the emcee, unexpectedly wheeled out a cart containing a huge cake!
It was revealed that Yui’s birthday is just around the corner (19th January in fact) and since she’s in Singapore, the EOY Team had decided to throw a small birthday party for her! Which is not exactly small, seeing that everyone in the audience stood up and started singing a birthday song for Yui.
Before you guys think that it has been planned all along: no one except the EOY Team knew about this plan. Yes, that’s right, not even her manager(s) knows that EOY will have such a special, one-of-a-kind and extremely memorable birthday party for her!
She went on to comment that “instead of giving a present (the piano piece), I got a present instead!” and that she never had such a big cake in all her life. Kudos to the EOY Team for making it such a memorable experience for both her and her fans alike!
One thing that I must commend about EOY is the very fact that everyone is extremely supportive of each other. When I first entered the event, I saw a couple of people at the front having some light sticks. That’s when I remembered that I’ve forgotten to buy/get myself some light sticks for the concert; something that I’ve repeatedly told myself to prior the event. However, it turns out that someone had been passing around a whole tube full of light sticks for everyone to grab some! Who is the one that started all of this, I do not know (although some told me that it was the chairman, Tim, who started passing the light sticks around), but one thing’s clear: whoever started this wanted everyone to take part in the concert, and wants everyone to have a great time.
And in truth? It was a blast, and probably the best one I’ve ever had.
