Announced by the Japanese Evangelion website, it would seem that mobile phone provider NTT docomo will be offering “Nerv Only” mobile phones as tie-in for the upcoming Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance movie.

For those that aren’t informed about this yet, Evangelion 2.0 is actually the second out of a 4 part theatrical remakes of the much popular Neon Genesis Evangelion.

While this is certainly a weird way of promoting the already extremely popular movie, there would definitely be concerns about the usability of the phone itself. The phone will be supervised strictly to the specifications stated by Hideaki Anno who is the director for the Evangelion movie. The phone’s design, accessories and even packaging will be supervised and monitored closely by Anno, as this upcoming phone is actually the phone used by the characters in the movie itself.

“Nerv” is the secretive multinational organization of the main characters in Evangelion.

There was a similar case in the 1990s, where the Monthly Shonen Ace had release an Evangelion promotional mobile phone (which was an existing model that time).

Not much information about the phone has been released thus far, but you can take a small look at how it’ll eventually turn out in the link provided below, although there isn’t really much detail apart from the picture that was shown above…

It would also seem that everyone is trying to get their products as a tie-in with the Evangelion series, as not long ago, it was indicated that even a pair of shoes will be made as a tie-in product for the second movie too…
