It has been nice knowing you.
I don’t really know if anyone still remembers that particular gaming phone that Nokia had made. Yeah, that phone.
Recently announced by Nokia, it is stated that they are discontinuing all support for their gaming phone, N-Gage and N-Gage QD. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise though, seeing that N-Gage hasn’t exactly been the most popular kind of gaming platform for anyone due to poor designs as well as other factors.
Nokia is still intending to continue selling N-Gage games over their own store all the way till September 2010, so if you’re in need for some N-Gage games, you can always head over to the Ovi Store and grab them yourself, although it’s surprising for anyone to even grab N-Gage games these days.
N-Gage had a pretty long (and painful) history to begin with. While Nokia’s original intention of N-Gage was to combine both gaming and mobile phone into one, it’s clear that poor design of how the first N-Gage looks like, and the extreme popularity of Gameboy Advance played a vital role is removing N-Gage from the mobile gaming scene. N-Gage QD was introduced as a revision of N-Gage, although negative comments and thoughts about N-Gage did not help to promote the QD version at all.
While the fate of N-Gage was definitely determined to be fail as soon as it’s launch, it’s still rather sad to see such an innovative phone getting discontinued. Apple’s iPhone might just be taking over the role of what N-Gage had originally started out to be… but still…
