A little disappointing, but it’s still Gears regardless.
Undoubtedly by now, majority of the Gears series fans would know that Gears of War is receiving a live-action adaptation. However, from the recent interview with Wyck Godfrey, the producer of the movie, it seems that we won’t be getting the whole package of Gears of War, like the one in the games.
Talking to Making Of, the producer says that it’s hard for them to make Gears of War into something else that people are accustomed with. Simply put, they want to create a dramatic transition from the usual firefights with the Locusts to something else more peaceful. Like people going around their daily lives, then wham, it’s Emergence Day.
It is further explained that the Gears of War movie will be documenting the following 48-hours after the events of Emergence Day, as people tries to find places to escape and all the likes. The producer had said mentioned that the movie will probably play out like how Cloverfield — the successful 2008 movie — had been presented like.
It would seem rather weird for a Gears of War movie to be centered around a peaceful setting, rather the the war setting that everyone is familiar with. However, Godfrey seems to have a reason for this, as he had said that “trying to tell the epic story of an alien planet that’s living in horrific environment just feels like the wrong move right now.”
What does that mean? A sequel for the movie when the first is not even out?
