Looking for a profession in creating mangas? Exactly what Kyoto Seika University is offering. For the first time in Japan, Kyoto Seika University will be offering a graduate program where it will foster a group of mangakas and manga researchers.
The course will begin during fiscal 2010, which probably means April 2010 or somewhere near that date.
The University is extremely well-known for their recognition of manga and had first established the manga program on a university level. Later on, the faculty of manga had been formed in 2006, followed by Kyoto International Museum of Manga.
With only 20 spots up for grabs during the entrance exams, the competition for the slots in the master’s degree program would be rather tough. About 840 students, ranging from freshmen to seniors have enrolled into the faculty of manga, all of which are aiming to be future mangakas or anime animators.
Although related courses had been offered in other graduate schools in the university, this particular program is the first to come under the faculty of manga. The lecturers that would be giving lessons in the program would include some rather famous mangakas such as Akira Saso, Keiko Takemiya, Shuho Itahashi and Yukio Shinohara. The late Murasaki Yamada had also once taught in the school before.
