It’s Official: Japan Bans All Copyrighted Material Downloads

Pretty much summarizes on how people feel.

As you might have noticed by now, there was an article with regards on Japan going harsher with Peer-to-peer download programs, and it was stated that the current government was pushing for an all-ban on both uploading and downloading of copyright materials.

Before this law was passed, it is considered illegal for people to upload copyrighted materials, but it’s completely legal for them to download it. However, this will be changed on the first day of 2010, as the Japanese parliament has approved the proposed law of making downloading of copyrighted materials without authorization illegal.

The proposed law was met with great opposition from the denizens of the internet, although it has no effect on the decision of the current government to propose the law.

The copyrighted materials doesn’t just protect their own companies in Japan. It seems that other country’s works such as Korean drama are also deemed as copyrighted materials, and an unemployed female has recently been arrested because of that.

What does this mean? Probably a lower amount of files being shared in the internet? Who knows, we can only sit around and wait while the day comes about…
