K-ON! the newest anime from Kyoto Animation is finally out after experiencing some little problems.
How was K-ON in my opinion?
Epic.
Slice-of-lifes are always a plus in my books, regardless of how they are.
Basically, for a little introduction of what K-ON is actually about.
K-On is an adaption of 4-koma manga. The story follows 4 girls who tries to rescue their high school’s light music club, but they are all novices who cannot even play instruments or read music.
Which is actually, not very accurate. Everyone in the Light Music Club with the exception of Yui could play instruments.
What a way to start a day.
The episode begins with Yui waking up from bed. Kind of a common thing, to be honest. Realizing that she is almost late for her first day in school, she quickly rushes out, only to find that her alarm clock was actually faster than the actual timing when she reached school.
That means… I’m a NEET!
Determined to do something since she is now in high school, Yui decides that she should join a club, but has no idea which. When she saw the Light Music Club’s poster, Yui gets reminded about her days in kindergarten, when she was playing some what she has mistakenly thought as “Light Music”.
When she finally finds out what Light Music is actually about, she regrets about joining them, and wants to inform the club that she is withdrawing her application. However, since the Light Music club is going to be suspended if they don’t have enough members, Mio, Ritsu and Tsumugi tries ways and means to keep Yui from leaving.
Bribery!
Treated with lots of goodies, such as tea and cakes, but still wanting to leave the club, Yui was faced with a great deal of internal conflict about staying or leaving, since she can’t possibly help the club by not being able to play an instrument. In a last attempt to ask Yui to join, the 3 girls decides to play a piece of music for Yui to listen before she decides if she really wanted to leave.
To their delight, Yui gets extremely motivated by their poorly composed music, and decides to stay with the club, while learning the ropes of being a gutiarist.
Phew, that was quite a summary.
From left to right: Tsumugi, Yui, Ritsu and Mio (who looks like Kagami)
With Mio as bass player, Tsumugi as keyboard, Ritsu as Drummer, and finally Yui as the Gutiarist, I would wonder what kind of music KyoAni will put on for us. Since this anime is all about music, there is bound to be music pieces here and there!
As expected, the art from KyoAni is fulfilling. The art in K-ON! gives a feeling that you’re watching Lucky Star, but yet it’s really not Lucky Star, since LS has chibi-like characters. It’s somewhat a mixture between Haruhi and Lucky Star, although some have done a comparison towards Kannagi too.
Since the anime is about musical instruments, it’s actually quite impressive that KyoAni actually drew the character’s fingers to match how the music is played out. Accuracy-wise on the notes, I can’t say much, since I don’t play music, but for a no-brainer like me, it does looks like it’s quite accurate!
Looks and sounds awesome. What else can I ask?
The OP was very well made in my opinion. The music that went with it is awesome to say the least, and the whole opening sequence is even more catchy than Haruhi’s ED. I’m totally postive about that! Nothing is gonna make me change my opinion that K-ON’s OP is the best in all KyoAni’s shows thus far! Nothing! *runs away*
Although this may appeal to some, it doesn’t appeal much to me.
However, the ED was a little weird for me. Although the music was nice and stuff, but I didn’t think that the whole idea of having that kind of fashion fitted into the show. It was a little weird, but still acceptable.
With that, K-ON! is probably gonna be in my top-rated listing for sometime this season…
Oh the eyes!
And oh, Yui looks a lot like Tsukasa from Lucky Star!

Somehow, I got reminded of Minami-ke here…
What an opportunist!
Oh, I just love that expression!
Another awesome expression from Ritsu!
I wonder why do they look so similar… and why do their eyes shines?!
Apparently, it’s Tsumugi’s first time at a fast food outlet.
Incentives to join the club. I would join just because of the homework!
Light Music for Yui when she was young.
Light Music for Yui when she is in High School.
Ritsu is really determined to make Yui stay!
Music playing while some advertisement for Yamaha. I wonder why the name didn’t get changed.
How nice. I would like 3 girls teaching me how to learn the guitar too! *sobs*
