K-ON! Image Song Series: Hirasawa Yui

yui

It should come as no surprise for anyone, really. Following K-ON!’s immense success, it’s only natural for this series to get some character albums. Thus far, only Yui and Mio has been released, although we can be sure that the other girl’s (Tsumugi, Ritsu and the all popular Azu-nyan~) albums would be making their debut pretty soon.

Unlike Lucky Star or Haruhi, there’s absolutely no number label on these albums. At least we’re spared from Lucky Star’s ridiculous numbering, which contains 3 digits and leads to the equally ridiculous speculation of the possibility of having more than 100 albums being released.

Yui’s album has 6 tracks which contains 3 vocal songs, although 2 songs are exclusive to her. The rest of the tracks are instrumental versions of the vocal tracks. The last song is called “Let’s Go” and seems to feature the respective character as the singer in their own albums. Think of Hare Hare Yukai from the Haruhi albums.

Here’s the song list:

1. Guitar ni Kubittake

2. Sunday Siesta

3. “Let’s Go” (Yui Ver.)

4. Guitar ni Kubittake (Instrumental)

5. Sunday Siesta (Instrumental)

6. “Let’s Go” (Instrumental)

Guitar ni Kubittake is probably the best song in the whole album. With a fast rhythm to the song, the Guitar sound complements to the rhythm of the song. However, the song has a few pauses here and there, which can actually spoil the whole song itself. But other than that, it’s a pretty solid song that can easily get the most attention out of the 3 songs in the album. I like the Guitar sounds, a lot.

Sunday Siesta can be considered as the complete opposite of Guitar ni Kubittake. If you’ve played Pangya, you will probably find the background music a little familiar. Sunday Siesta, like the name suggest, gives you feeling that you’re actually on some beach. It’s a joyful feeling or something like that.

Let’s Go! is an extremely weird song if you ask. It has the potential to be a great song, but when the song starts, there’s this annoying “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go!” or something like that. As for the rest of the song, it’s pretty decent, but like I said, the “Let’s Go! Let’s Go, Go!” is somewhat spoiling the song, at least for me.

However, regardless of how does Yui’s voice sound, it’s actually quite a nice album. Sure, Yui’s album can’t be compared towards some of the other character albums (e.g Tsukasa from Lucky Star, her album was one of the best I’ve ever heard), but it is still awesome to say the least.

I’m also thinking about the possibility of a Sawako-sensei album… anyone with me here?
