Yutaka Yamamoto is famous for 2 things; 1) his direction of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (the first one, we know how much the second one sucked) and 2) his direction of Kannagi.
Both animes had generally received good impressions, and Yamamoto had also briefly directed Lucky Star (4 episodes), so he can be considered as some of the more famous anime directors out there.
However, during a press conference on Tuesday, it is revealed that Yamamoto will be directing a live action movie which is actually his first live-action movie. The movie is supposedly to be premiering on the Summer of 2010.
The live action movie which is adapted from the light novel, Watashi no Yasashikunai Sempai (roughly translates to “My Mean Senior”), follows the life of a high school girl, Yamako Iriomote, who is too shy to confess to the boy she likes and has sent numerous love letters to the boy. Unfortunately, another boy named Fuwa found out about the love letters and decides to “help” her in her quest to confess to the boy.
While it’s certain that Yamamoto does have the ability to direct well in animes, who knows how he would fare when it comes to live action movies? Plus, the film that he’s appointed to direct looks, in the very least, extremely interesting so it would be a rather close watch for me. Yamamoto is an interesting man too.
