Kojima Holds His Interview On Twitter, Peace Walker Trailer Released

Everyone sure loves the Russian RPG!

If experience through playing Metal Gear Solid game has taught me anything, that is Kojima is an extremely funny (and weird) guy. From the game to the last, Kojima has always amazed his fans by doing some strange antics in his game, be it making references back to his old games, or simply making funny lines for his characters.

Latest in his bag of antics is to use twitter for an interview. Not exactly the best of ways to do interviews — seeing that Twitter has a 140 character limit — but you can’t deny that one could convey more information with 140 characters in Japanese, can’t they?

Kojima has also has an English Twitter account if people hadn’t already found out. English translation of the entire interview was posted up at the English twitter, so if you’re interested in the English tweets, you might want to drop by his English twitter.

And here’s a transcript of the interview for those who are lazy to look through the whole bunch of tweets (yes, yes, I know. Twitter is somewhat bothersome in that aspect…).

How is Peace Walker’s development going?

“I am doing the last rounds of checking for PW. After the checks, this becomes the product that people will have in their hands of course after it is pressed. We are running parallel with the overseas version as well so after the Japanese version, checks for the overseas version starts. I am also working on the trailers, at the same time, brainstorming plans for events.”

In a prior meeting, you said “Once Peace Walker is done, it will be a masterpiece.” When did you get the confidence for this?

“PW has many aspects that previous MGS titles haven’t had. I was confident, but worried at the same time when each element started to develop. Then around November, these elements started linking and I started seeing the entire picture. Not only did I see this, but team members started seeing the concept develop and at that point, I remember that I felt confident And reassured about this project.”

Is the game a masterpiece in story or gameplay?

“PW is going to be released as a portable game, but it is a TRUE MGS game in the saga, not a spin off. Of course, we have put a lot of power into the story. It should be pretty exciting. The potential of a portable game, an innovative system that changes the nature of future MGs is what makes this a game a title to look forward too.”

Your works always have themes. Following “Meme,” “Gene,” “Scene” and “Sense,” what is Peace Walker’s theme?

“The theme for PW is ‘Peace.’ I have always included an anti-nuke/war message in previous MGSs but war and explosions have not gone away. ‘Why do we need armies and nuclear weapons?’ I wrote a script regarding this issue of this balance… only kept through the existence of armies and nuclear weapons as ‘deterrence’ to maintain ‘Peace.'”

There were several other questions that were omitted because I don’t feel like that have an exact impact on the impression of Peace Walker, but if you’re interested in “what did you have for lunch today“, you can drop by Andriasang with their full interview transcript!

Other than that, it looks like Kojima will hold yet another interview on Peace Walker tomorrow, on the same medium used today. Yes, Twitter again!

Kojima has also announced that a regular stream of trailers will be chugging out from him before the game is released, so number one is already up for watching now. Kojima has even admitted that he has yet to work on the second one! Now that really reminds me of the line from Psycho Mantis: “We live in the moment.” Wonder if that line has anything to do with Kojima’s thoughts…
