KyoAni’s Take On Endless Eight

kyon_facepalm

As if one Haruhi isn’t enough…

While the previous director had expressed his apologies about the direction where Endless Eight is heading, it seems that KyoAni had finally commented something about apparently mindless looping of the arc.

Although the audience were asked to refrain from posting the events that happened during the Otakon conference in the internet, someone had posted the whole talk on Haruhi onto YouTube. You can view it here while feeling guilty inside. Don’t worry, I’m as guilty as the next person who clicks it.

Yamamoto, the director for the first season of Haruhi, had expressed his apologies during Otakon 2009 about the direction where Haruhi is heading to. While he is no longer part of Kyoto Animation, he says that he can’t help but feel responsible with “what’s going on” now.

After the conference, Yamamoto had received praises due to his honesty. According to him, the whole concept of this ridiculous six episodes of Endless Eight had already taken place when he was still in Kyoto Animation. He said that he was extremely against the idea and Endless Eight could’ve been done and over with in 2 episodes.

Of course, when the video and the whole “truth about Endless Eight conspiracy” goes around the internet, Kyoto Animation can’t help but to notice the whole incident. While people were expecting a reply from Kyoto Animation, Kyoto Animation simply just said:

“We’re not related.” (roughly translated)

Basically, by saying that Kyoto Animation had completely dismissed Yamatomo’s story on the whole Endless Eight drama. The whole “could be ended in 2 episodes” and “idea started when Yamatomo was still in the company” had been completely dismissed.

Of course, there are also other factors such as Kadokawa pulling some strings…

However, as we go along the episodes, it may seem that the Disappearance arc would not be making it’s appearance in the second season. If rumour holds true, then 3 boxes (which will contain 6 episodes) of DVDs for the second season would be… repeated. I really doubt they will make money from selling 6 almost identitical episodes. Maybe if they would bundle some goodies along with it…

    @ zzeroparticle:

Certainly is. I mean, spending 60-70 bucks on a single DVD volume just for 2 episodes is a lot. When it comes to 6 episodes of the same content… I doubt people would buy the DVDs.

That’s one of the things that came to mind was regarding the sale of Japanese Haruhi2 DVDs. You’d think that by doing this, KyotoAni is effectively shooting themselves in the foot since no one but the really die-hard fans would actually go through the trouble of shelling out the equivalent of $70 per disc to purchase it. And with this stunt, they’ve lost a lot of goodwill.

Sorry to put this as an aside, but my opinion goes like this:

“Forget Haruhi: the whole franchise is an overhyped dead piece of horse carcass. No amount of complex life-saving device will gonna pull me towards it, nor will I worship the God-Empress as if the entire human existence depends on her worship.”
