Score one for L4D2.
Still remember the Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott that existed since L4D2’s announcement? Their goal was to… well, like their group name had suggested, “boycott L4D2″. However, on the 14th October, it is announced that L4D2 Boycott will be officially “finished”.
To be honest, the group’s numbers are actually pretty impressive. Having 41,000 members during it’s peak is quite a big number.
However, just a day ago, the group’s admins decided that it was time that the L4D2 Boycott campaign is officially finished as the group’s (or rather, both admins) doubts were addressed by Valve when the admins were flew over to Valve’s HQ for a round of play testing.
This has, of course, thrown the group members into RAEG mode as many of them declared that they were “stabbed in the back” by the admin’s recent actions. Apparently, after the admins had gotten back from their trip to Valve HQ and started singing praises about L4D2, a bunch of members in the group started to oppose them, calling them “nothing but Valve’s marketing tool” and that the admins had “lost sight on the aim of the boycott”.
One of them even threatened the admins that if he ever sees either of the admins in a game, he would “TK them over and over again”.
If you’re interested in the drama, you can head over to this link and see it for yourself. It’s about 24 pages long as of now.
The reason for the closure of the group is not unjustified though. Not that the admin were sold to Valve or anything, but the admins believes that they had accomplished their goals, and that the group has succeeded in getting Valve’s attention to support L4D more.
According to one of the admin himself, it was written that their intention “wasn’t to steer players away from L4D2″, but rather to “get Valve’s attention to support L4D more”.
I don’t know about you, but the boycott seems to be a little off in my opinion. Regardless if the boycott is there or not, Valve will definitely continue on with supporting L4D. Look at the announcements that they have on the L4D blog, it’s a clear indication that L4D will be supported even after L4D2!
And oh, doesn’t the word “boycott” means something else?
