The proud 18-meters Gundam had been taken down from Odaiba since last September and since then, there has little to no news on where the Gundam would be restored to, although the head of the RX78 had made it’s appearance during the Tokyo Game Show. It just wouldn’t be right for Bandai to scrap off a 18-meters Gundam that had took several months of work to build right?
That’s why Bandai has finally settled on a location where the Gundam would be stationed next!
The 18-meters RX78 Gundam, built to commemorate the 30th year of Gundam was open to the public for a period of two months in Odaiba temporarily, and was shortly torn down after that and there had been not much news on where the Gundam would be relocated to.
Recently reported by the Sankai Sports Newspaper, it looks like the RX78 will find it’s yet-another temporary house in Shizuoka, in front of Japan Railway’s Higashi-Shizuoka Station in Shizuoka’s Aoki ward. The prefecture of Shizuoka also happens to be the home for Bandai’s plastic model factory. A fitting place, if you ask me! Shizuoka is also the home for many plastic model manufacturers, such as the all popular Tamiya.
The statue will remain on display at the Higashi-Shizuoka from July 2010 to May 2011, and will then be moved to yet another prefecture. Final plans are to set it near the Bandai Hobby Center, although not much details has been revealed regarding that.
But still, great news for those who had yet to view the majestic of the Gundam, yeah? Maybe someone would finally convert this statue into a working prototype and re-enact the whole scene out!
