Anyone familiar with Lucky Star would know that the Hiiragi sisters had worked as Miko at a Washinomiya Shrine, and that Shrine has been a popular spot for many people since the introduction in the anime series. Another familiar place would be Lucky Star author Kagami Yoshimizu’s previous house, as it was later renovated to the “birthplace of Lucky Star” since the author had moved out in 2008.
They would also be familiar that after the astounding success of Lucky Star, it looks like people from around Japan (and the world) are flocking to such iconic places in Lucky Star!
A record number of 450,000 had visited the shrine during the first three days of the New Year, making it the highest amount of people visiting the Shrine in a single time frame. After the end of Lucky Star, the Shrine had seen a steady increase of people visiting the shrine. Attendance during the New Year’s holiday season considerably larger every year — from 90,000 in 2007 and 300,000 in 2008 to 420,000 in 2009 and 450,000 this year.
The official “home” of the Izumi family has also seen quite a number of visitors, with people even buying the “official” certificate of residence for the fictional family. About 2,000 such certificates were sold in total to this date and will be continued to be sold through city’s department as a method of promoting the city’s economic growth.
During the ceremony of recognizing the certificate, 600 plus fans who had queue in line since early morning had received special numbered certificates. The first 53, however, had their certificates signed by Kagami Yoshimizu himself! Quite a collection!
While Lucky Star’s anime had ended sometime ago, it’s undeniable that Lucky Star’s influence and popularity amongst people has yet to wane. Who knows, Lucky Star might be one of the more popular series in many years to come!
