Konata: “We’ll take over the world!”

Not only does Lucky Star provide entertainment for the countless fans out there, it has also been a source of income for the town of Washimiya. After the appearance of the twin sisters — Hiiragi Kagami and Tsukasa — working at the Washinomiya shrine on the anime series, the shrine has since then gained immense popularity.
Starting from 2007, the town of Washimiya estimates that about one billion yen has been brought into the town after the local shrine has appeared on the anime series. Sales of Lucky Star related goods had generated over 70 million yen themselves. Not only that, the shrine where both sisters are supposedly to work in had received a huge boost of people visiting them, starting from a humble 90,000 in 2007 all the way to 450,000 this year. Pretty impressive numbers!
Other than the shrine, Lucky Star had also helped the other towns in other ways, such as having an “official” Izumi residence in Satte, which is actually the mangaka’s old house. The town had decided to renovate the house to match the one of the Izumi family in the series and had sold “official certificates” of residence to fans of Lucky Star sometime last year. Satte is still selling these certificates at their city’s department as a method of city growth.
Despite Lucky Star’s age, it looks like it’s still holding up pretty well. Come to think of it, who can resist the all-otaku Konata?
