Banzai and all!
After and unexpected downturn of being lazy work, I have motivate been nagged enough to post an article in NotCliche.
Today’s topic is on Megurine Luka, the new member of the crypton Vocaloid family!
NotCliche is still not late in covering her because of my lazy ass as her details were only release on January 5th.
Read More inside!
So, what exactly do we know about Luka?
Like usual, her character image was made by Kei and register to crypton and most likely the last of the Vocaloid 2 series. (I am hoping not…I really love Vocaloids. Even if this is the end of Vocaloid 2, give me Vocaloid 3!)
Her full name is Megurine Luka(巡音ルカ), where Megurine means Round Voice/Sound and is most likely to be translated as the ‘Sound that goes around’. Luka is a english nameis a combination of Japanese words that involve homonymous words like flowing(nagare) and song(ka). When the two words combine, they form Luka. It is also to be note that ka can also mean scent, but I am guessing it is song as what has smell gotta do with music?
According to offcial sources, especially crypton’s blog, the following are her profiles.
Age : 20 years old
Height : 162cm
Weight : 45kg
Preferred genres : Latin, ethnic pop, ethnic house and electronica dance
Recommended tempos : 65 to 145 BPM
Recommended Vocal Range : D3 to D5 (Based on personal experience, I think D6 is suitable too.)

According to crypton, Luka’s voice bank would be around 3GB. That is a very large amount for just one voice bank, yes? But listen to this, Luka is actually designed to be bilingual. That means she can sing Japanese and English, hence the reason why it’s 3GB as Japanese and English have different tones.
Another reason for her to be named Luka was that it is a western name and originates from the name Lukia, which is of english origin. So it pretty much shows that crypton was wanting express that she is bilingual.
The one who provided her Voice Sample was Asakawa Yuu(浅川 悠), who is pretty much popular in anime and games. Asakawa-san acts as seiyuu for Rider in Fate/Stay Night, so curse you heretics that don’t know who she is!
She also provided voices for games like Star Ocean : Till The End of Time as the voice of Nel Zelpher and Mavi from Luminous Arc.
From the first glance of Luka, the first thing that came to mind was Nel from SO3 pretty much due to the clothing designs. I was happy to know that Asakawa-san is the voice sample for Luka, as I really like Nel’s japanese voice. However, I was quite disapointed with the sample song, which can be found on crypton’s blog.

According to Crypton and Kei, Luka was designed to be “Cool and Mysterious, yet sound somewhat moody”.
Of course, some argued that she looked more like Selvaria from Valkyria Chronicles. Since I have never played that game, so I will still think of her as an upgraded version of Nel Zelpher.

Vocaloid 2 CV03, Megurine Luka, will be officially released for sale on January 30th. You can preorder now for 15750 yen from this page:

Apparently, there was some random dude name Netto that don’t believe that Luka was released recently due to massive amount of fanart released in like what, 3 days? Really random dude, yes? ;o
Up to date, about 1000 fanart was made on January 7th, so I am guessing there’s hell lotta more out there. So join us and become our comrades! Worship them >;3!!
*Ahem* Nothing, you see nothing at all.
Well, that’s all for now. But hey, there are still lots of vocaloids which I have not introduced! So do check in again when my lazy bum doesn’t feel lazy~ Expect quality videos somewhere in mid Feb, as we have to give people time to make songs.
