The adventures of the Minami sisters continues with a bang, as the thirth season comes in play! Like the previous two seasons of Minami-Ke (Minami-ke and Okawari respectively), the anime shows absolutely no plot, instead, just the plain depiction of the daily lives of the Minami Sisters.
Minami-ke was introduced to me after I had watched Lucky Star, and had an immediate liking to it. What could be more amusing than watching 3 sisters battling out each day?
Setting aside the plotless plot, the 3rd season started off with familiar music and familiar art (if you’re used to season 2), some forgivable errors on the animation side, and generally speaking, it’s all well and all.
In my opinion, the opening sequence is indeed better than the second season, but it still fall shorts of season one’s opening. Okawari’s opening just didn’t suit this kind of anime, but it seems that asread finally did something about it, and had their opening changed into something that is more suitable.
Everyone from the previous seasons will make their appearance in the 3rd season, and the OP had hinted that there would be more characters joining in the show. Not much information is shown anyway, but we can expect to see some new characters.
Like the many others that have posted a first impression of Minami-ke Okaeri, it is indeed true that this season suffers from some weird animation. Some of the characters aren’t drawn properly at times, and some of the character proportion aren’t exactly nice on the eyes. Some of the “uglies” are acceptable… but this following picture may be a little too… well, you can probably see it for yourself.
However, setting the small amount of “uglies” aside, there are actually plenty of pretty animation done by asread. Okawari wasn’t as easy on the eyes as Okaeri, and that’s definitely one improvement. I admit, it was really, really and seriously, really difficult for me to watch Okawari when it was first released.
There was cute moments, as well as serious moments, and both of them are equally well balanced out by asread.
For a first episode, the introduction of the show is indeed a special one. Unlike most anime that starts off their show by showing some text or maybe a little introduction or something, Okaeri started off straight away, with the OP only starting at the 8mins mark. The ED came early, at around the 16mins mark.
I’ve got no idea if this will be continued like this, but I really hope that it doesn’t. It might be special, but I would really like to listen to the OP before starting on the actual show. Yes, it is that good (but still doesn’t beat S1’s…).
Talking about OP, the OP is actually quite nice. The animation for the OP is clean, and the song really suited the anime. The ED is more or less having the same impression as the ED, but there is some eye candy or sorts in the ED.
And of course, Minami-ke wouldn’t be complete without the super obsessive Hosaka-sempai. I won’t say anything else, because he is just too awesome for words.
The man that always reminds me of yaoi scenes manliness.
Either way, Minami-Ke Okaeri isn’t as bad as some of the people have said. Sure, it does have it’s own faults, but hey, it’s an amazing anime to say the least!
