We’ve never heard of a shortage on consoles for sometime now, especially not with the current gen consoles before. Sony, however, is convinced that they would be facing a shortage of consoles going around retailers if the sales rate of the PS3 Slims continues to be as their present rate.
Jack Tretton, the SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America) had reportedly said that he believes that retailers would be facing a shortage of machines in their shops if the sales rate of the PS3 continues at the present rate. According to him, Sony had observed an amazing 300% increase of units sold over last year since the console’s price cut of $100.
“If things continue at this pace, it is conceivable that there will be product shortages.”
Needless to say, Sony is doing extremely well after the launch of the PS3 Slim, which might actually turn the tides of the console war in their favour.
Other than that, Sony has also been reportedly said that they are aiming for a goal of 17 million units sold by the end of the fiscal year (about April 2010).
Pretty huge goal you have there huh, Sony?
