PS3: “With This, We’ve Signed The 360’s Death Warrant!”

Our poor Xbox 360-tan might just need some redeeming features soon…

Okay, not exactly the death warrant of the Xbox 360, but quite close.

Nowadays, there are many American users of the Xbox 360 who would use their console solely for the service called Netflix. For the uninformed, Netflix is actually a service that allows people to get onto the net to watch movies as well as TV shows, thus effectively eliminating the need for having a cable or satellite to watch TV shows.

The Xbox 360 has long established itself as an entertainment platform; providing games as well as entertainment that television can provide by using Netflix. However, seeing that Netflix is a Gold Subscription only service in Xbox Live, you’ll need to pay an addition USD$30-40 on top the Netflix access fee just to access it on the 360.

Sony, however, had announced that the PS3 will be getting Netflix too, without the need for the users to pay any kind of subscription fee. The Playstation Network, or PSN has always been offering free multiplayer for their users and Netflix is no exception to this. All the user needs to do is to pay for a Netflix subscription and they are good to go!

Not only that, it is said that the Netflix on the PS3 will be similar to the Xbox 360. While it’s a little hassle for the PS3 owners to grab Netflix now (you’ll need to order a free DVD to make your PS3 work with Netflix), it is expected that Sony will roll out a firmware update in 2010 which will completely integrate Netflix with the PS3. Until then, PS3 Netflix owners would need to keep the Netflix DVD in their drives at all times if they want to catch a show on Netflix.

The Netflix service on the PS3 will be starting next month. Pretty good news for any PS3 owners out there!

With Netflix being a Gold-only service in the Xbox 360, it seems that Microsoft is just asking to have their customers jump ships to the PS3 where they don’t have to pay some “gold membership” in order to access Netflix. And the users on the PS3 can enjoy free multiplayer on top of that too.

Joystiq here has a detailed interview with Netflix, so you can hop on there and check out some details yourself too.

Sony is definitely getting closer and closer towards dominating the Xbox 360 in the console war. It’s just a matter of time before Microsoft loses utterly… unless they start to think of something to help them. At least, for the American side.

Why care about features when there is a lack of games? Unless the PS3 get better games, whatever new features it has is naded.

netflix does not win a console war, natal is a joke, but the scale of XBLA and their sheer array of games over the PS3 should keep the 360 afloat for a long time to come

It’s true in a sense, but Netflix has since replaced the normal television usage for quite an amount of consoles users out there.

But Sony is indeed bringing out more and more features for both their PS3 as well as their PSN, so Microsoft might face some serious competition in the near future. Won’t be as easy as the previous few years for Microsoft now…
