When the PSP Go’s FCC documents were filed, many people saw that the maximum clock speed of the PSP Go is a surprising 480mhz, although the PSP Go’s official specifications had stated that the clock speed is 333mhz.
The 480mhz speed had generally received mixed feelings. Some felt that it’s a waste to have this extra megahertz to go waste, while others said that these extra megahertz will eat more battery life.
But fear not. Sony Computer Entertainment have recently revealed that the max 480mhz clock speed refers to the USB connection speed.
What does that means? Well, basically, you still have your PSP Go clocked at 333mhz, while the extra megahertz are being directed towards the USB. More clocking speed for the USB equals to faster data transfer rate. How does that sound to you? Now you can transfer more data at a shorter time!
Of course, that effectively eliminate the “energy-hungry” factor, but other than the fact that the PSP Go has a new look (with crappy analog) and a whole new slew of accessories that will burn your pockets with no added value into the console… the PSP Go should look rather attractive to prospective consumers!
Now, with the faster data transfer rate, the PSP Go looks more like an MP3 player rather than a handheld console to me now. Maybe Sony’s gonna duke it out with Apple soon.
