Stunned by ridiculous moments..
There comes a time where you encounter something silly in a game.
No, I’m not talking about regenerating health and inhuman movements, they are what I call “Game Physics” and we have come to accept them for unrealistic parts of games. I’m talking about things that just make you go “What?” due to the absurdity of it all. Even worse, stun you like the picture of Hayate and Hinagiku above.
Welcome to a new series called Ridiculous Moments in Gaming, where I share my experiences and thoughts on these moments. Up first is Eternal Sonata, a 360/PS3 RPG game made by Tri-Crescendo, played on my Xbox 360.
Now, some of you might be wondering why I picked a “JRPG” for this since most of the genre contains ridiculous things to begin with (e.g. Crazy hairdos, gigantic swords). However, those are common in the genre so it doesn’t really strike me as absurd. With that being said, let’s continue.
Ridiculous Moment : Feeding Goats paper to stop them from blocking a bridge
In Eternal Sonata, you’ll enter a location called the Chorus Plains. While trying to get through the plains, you’ll encounter a bridge blocked by a trio of goats.
Never mind that we have been fighting goats up till this point!
Even though the bridge is obviously wide enough for them to cross, the party comes to a conclusion that the goats won’t budge and you have to use food to make them move. Maybe the goats will viciously assault them if they try to cross before being fed.
Do not apply this knowledge onto man-eaters.
Funny how they didn’t think of using violence to make them move, considering they have been slaughtering angel goats in encounters all the way up to this point (in self defense?). Three goats are surely too much to handle compared to angel goats.
Seriously. ANGEL goats.
But I digress..
Normally you would think of feeding goats grass or leaves from a tree or something similar. After all, there are plenty of grass in this area. Unfortunately, you can’t do that.
Instead, you have to pick up paper scattered around the plains and feed them paper to make them move away from the bridge.
What about all that grass?
And of course, after taking part in this little fetch quest by running around the plains collecting paper instead of the abundant grass, the party feeds the goats with paper and they leave, allowing the party to cross the bridge.
Think about that for a few seconds.
I don’t know about you, but my first thought when it comes to a goat’s diet is definitely not paper. I understand that some goats do eat paper since it’s made from pulp but seriously? Paper?
I have yet to pick up Eternal Sonata again since this incident. Feel free to convince me otherwise if it’s worth playing through it.
