Sex Scenes In Games Increases Player Involvement?!

Involvement, or it is simply “sex sells”?

Sex in a video game that is played by a good majority of people can be sensitive. So sensitive, that it can raise millions of articles pertaining to how sick the developer and the company whom developed it can be.

The first so-called huge issue with sex scene in games started off from Mass Effect. While Mass Effect did have sex in the game’s own storyline, there’s really no real depiction of the whole sex duration, it was enough to suggest a gabillion worth of reports on how Mass Effect is going to affect the children of our time.

However, it seems that the issue just doesn’t stop there.

An upcoming game, named Alpha Protocol, is seemingly following in the same steps as what Mass Effect did. Mass Effect is an RPG Shooter, and of course, Alpha Protocol is one too.

Human interaction in an RPG game is extremely important, says the creative designer of Alpha Protocol, thus when it comes to making love between two consenting adults, he thinks that it one of the best ways to effectively involve players in the Human interaction part of the game.

So, in Alpha Protocol, we can probably expect some of these sex scenes happening. Yes, Obsidian (the developers for Alpha Protocol) knows how much of a storm Mass Effect had received, but they are going ahead with the sex idea, simply because it allows the players to be more involved in the game world and the characters that are in it. After all, it’s a role playing game we’re talking about here.

The designer has been quoted saying this:

“I think it’s an important step, and it’s not sex for sex’s sake, but it’s part of human interaction that makes you more involved in the game world and your characters,” he says. “Just like in the real world, sex runs the range from entertainment to a symbol of the depth of feeling between two people, and not having that reflected in a role-playing experience feels does RPGs an injustice.”

Well, I do know the importance of relating the player to the character they are playing in the game… but using sex scenes as a way of playing involvement?

I don’t know man. I think using emotion is a better way to make the player relate to the character…
