While certainly, Sony is making big bucks through the introduction of a lower-priced PS3 Slim, it doesn’t necessary mean that they are making a profit as of now. Actually, Sony hasn’t made a profit after all the years of losses on the PS3, but it seems that Sony believes that they would be profiting off their game console in the near future.
According to the Washington Post, Sony had stated that they believe that they would achieve profitability by 2013. Sony says that by March 2013, they should be able to achieve a profitability margin of about 5%, thus removing all the losses they had made since the introduction of the PS3.
As many would have guessed it, a major part on how Sony earn money is through their game consoles. Sony had announced that they will be relying on digital distribution greatly as way to make profit, aiming as much as 300 billion yen in digital distribution by March 2013, as well as making the PSN a better place for every player on the network.
Sounds like a plan, Sony. But, how about that predicted 2012 doomsday?
