Final Fantasy 13 took nearly five years, millions of dollars to make and had the participation of over a few hundred staff. Not only that, FF13 had jumped from the PS2 to the PS3, thus increasing the production time and cost, and that’s why Square Enix says that there wouldn’t be another game like FF13, ever again.
Boasting some pretty amazing graphics and a huge hype behind it, why Square Enix isn’t thinking of making yet another FF13-like game anyway? The game’s producer tells the Europe Playstation blog this:
If you consider that during Final Fantasy XIII’s development, at peak time the team consisted of over 300 people. It was a huge team, plus it took a several long years to get the game finished. So, if Mr Wada meant that we would never make another Final Fantasy title with the similar number of people, taking as long as FFXIII did, we would agree.
Obviously in the future we want to be much more efficient. Having worked on XIII, we feel that we have got much better at making good games for high definition consoles. In the future our teams will be smaller and more effectively run.
Basically, we’ll probably see Final Fantasy games getting released a lot faster than the time FF13 took? Or maybe we’ll see the removal of extremely linear levels and absolutely no exploration of the world?
Who knows, but I’m betting my money on removal of the “no exploration of the world”. I’m pretty sure exploration made up a good chunk of the Final Fantasy’s gaming experience, right?
