What, Episode 13 has no opening? Must be something important!
Sighs 4 is probably the best episode the whole season has to offer, simply because Kyon has finally grew a pair of balls (in a sense) and finally went ahead to openly oppose Haruhi’s ideas. While there had been many a times where Kyon had disagreed with Haruhi’s course of action, Kyon didn’t actually oppose Haruhi by refusing to do something that she wanted.
Haruhi can be extremely unreasonable at times.
Novel readers would probably know this already, but to see it getting animated out and voiced, the particular scene where Kyon challenged Haruhi was the best scene in the whole episode. Kyoto Animation had done an excellent job in regards that, and many a times, viewers can more or less see the 2006 animation quality in the episode instead of the K-ON-fied kind of animation that many people had said in the past.
For those people who are fed up with Endless Eight, you’ll probably love this episode, since Kyon had almost punched Haruhi if it’s not for Itsuki. It’s noteworthy that Itsuki is apparently stronger than Kyon, seeing that Kyon had trouble breaking out of Itsuki’s grip, while Itsuki had barely any trouble holding Kyon back.
Too busy being depressed?!
Another awesome thing of the episode just has to be the fact that Haruhi was trying on a Ponytail hairstyle when Kyon had happened to enter the clubroom. Although the hairstyle was for a brief few seconds, it does convey quite a lot of things. Itsuki had also commented that Haruhi was “more depressed than angry” after the argument with Kyon does say volumes about how Haruhi feels towards Kyon.
Of course, setting aside the one and only scene that shows the conflict between Kyon and Haruhi, the rest of the episode of more or less the same as we go through the “making-of” the movie. The laser beam that Mikuru had in the previous episode makes yet another appearance, although it’s for a relatively short time. The usual things such as Mikuru breaking down due to the demands of Haruhi is still common, and one has to feel pity at some point of time as Mikuru goes through the torturous demands of Haruhi.
Sighs will definitely be 5 episodes long! The next episode would be the conclusion of the filming, and we’ll probably see the cultural episode the week after. Can’t wait to see Live Alive again!
