Not exactly, Kyon.
By now, it’s definitely no news that everyone knows of the so-called season 2 of Suzumiya Haruhi. Initially believed to be a complete re-run of the first season, I guess those that are thinking that way (me included) were dearly wrong.
May 17th, the first episode that was not listed in the original first season was finally aired. The re-run of the first season is apparently 28 episodes long, with new and never seen before episodes in it. Best of all, it’s finally following Chronological order.
And now, with Episode 1 fansubbed by the guys at DB and L-E (there’s always an option of either Coalguy and GG working together), viewers who aren’t knowledgable in the Japanese language can finally understand what the episode is about.
Everybody misses Itsuki’s awesome smile, right?
If you’ve followed the light novel series, this episode should come as no surprise for you. Episode 8 is clearly starting the fourth volume of the light novel series, namely called “The Vanishment of Suzumiya Haruhi”. There’s no immediate change of settings, but it’ll come sooner or later. While I’m gonna refrain from spoiling anything from the light novel, there is gonna be big changes (perhaps, shocking too) while watching the story going on. It is also highly recommended that readers should pick up reading the light novel.
What about impressions on the first episode? Well, that’s a difficult question. After viewing so many of KyoAni’s animations, I found out that I can make out a lot of similarities between some of the characters of different series.
Well, aside from that, I would say the so-called “First Episode” of the second season is rather decent. Kyon and his sense of humour never fails to make me laugh. The voice of Hirano Aya portraying herself as Haruhi isn’t so bad when you’ve not hear that voice for ages. Gotou Yuuko is the same as always, playing out her role of Mikuru as cutely as possible. But still, regardless of who appears, I’m sure Tomokazu Sugita wins all with Kyon. What’s not to like about that guy anyway?
And here are the screencaps for your viewing pleasure.
Either way, like I’ve said, prepare to expect some unexpected stuff, if you haven’t read the light novels. Of course, while keeping up with the whole season at the moment, expect to see some episodes that you’ve seen in season one before, since it’s a compilation of new and old content.
If you’re lost about where to grab the episode, here’s a link to the selections:
And you weren’t expecting Hare Hare Yukai, wouldn’t you? Because the new ED is waaaaaaaaay better. Well, at least what I think.
