Tales series is probably one of the most popular series in whole jRPG line up. Featuring some of the most original battle system ever, the Tales series have gained many fans throughout the world with it’s awesome story and gameplay.
I won’t deny it. I’m an loyal fan for the Tales series, and I can safely say that all games that carries the name “Tales of” is a great game. To date, there’s a total of 12 (10 released) different Tales games, and several other spin-offs for the series.
If you guys have played any of the Tales games before, there’s something that you will be familiar with. Yep, every single game will an anime opening, even the spin-off games have their own openings too.
So, remembering that, I’m actually rather curious about how known each Tales game is to you guys. Which Tales game have you guys played before and which opening do you like best?
After the jump, all the different openings that belongs to different Tales games.
Tales of Phantasia — SNES Ver.
Tales of Phantasia is the first Tales game to be ever made, and probably the one with the most adaptations. This particular game have been ported to 3 other different (PS1, PSP, GBA) platforms, and also had been adapted into an OVA.
Tales of Phantasia — PS1, PSP Ver.
After Tales of Phantasia comes Tales of Destiny. Tales of Destiny is actually the very first Tales game I’ve ever played, and I remembered restarting the game all the time because I don’t have a memory card for my PS1 that time. Tales of Destiny also has a sequel, called Tales of Destiny 2.
The sequel “Tales of Destiny 2” should not be confused with the NA localization of “Tales of Eternia“. Due to some licensing problems, Tales of Eternia had to be forced to be renamed to Tales of Destiny 2 in the NA localization. It’s a little confusing, but just check out the OPs. It’ll probably help in clearing the doubt up.
Tales of Destiny — PS1, PS2 (remake)
Right after Tales of Destiny comes Tales of Eternia. Tales of Eternia is actually quite an impressive jRPG on the PS1 platform, spanning 3 discs long and 2 worlds for the player to discover. Quite an adventure.
Tales of Eternia / Tales of Destiny 2 in NA — (PS1, PSP)
Sadly, after Tales of Eternia, PS1 is considered outdated and Namco moved onto the next platform: Playstation 2. Right after Tales of Eternia, the sequel for Tales of Destiny came out.
Tales of Destiny 2 — (PS2, PSP)
Next is one of the most memorable Tales game ever. I’ve not touched Symphonia before because I don’t own a Gamecube or PS2. I wished I have one so I can play this game…
Tales of Symphonia — (GameCube, PS2)
In truth, I’ve lost sight of the Tales game after Tales of Destiny 2. Mainly because of the gaming platform which I simply don’t have. Why did Namco produce the titles on PS2, why?!
Tales of Rebirth — (PS2, PSP)
Tales of Legendia — (PS2)
And then after Legendia, we come to The Abyss. I’m sure you guys should be familiar with this particular series. I mean, c’mon! It has been adapted into a full anime that spans over 24 episodes long! One of the most watched anime ever! How can no one know about this particular game?
The Abyss is probably the only series that is getting all the love thus far. With manga adaptations, a full blown anime adaptation, there’s no denying that this particular series is probably one of the most popular ones in the whole Tales line up.
Tales of the Abyss — (PS2)
Tales of Innocence is right after The Abyss, and the only Tales game to ever appear on the DS platform. Kind of a weird platform to choose if you ask me. It also has the shortest opening out of the whole series.
Tales of Innocence — (NDS)
And finally, the latest Tales game, and also the first one to ever grace the Xbox 360 platform. The PS3 will also be receiving their first Tales game with Tales of Vesperia. This is also one of the few Tales game that actually has an English OP with it.
Tales of Vesperia will also be receiving the first Tales movie to be ever created. The movie is set to be released sometime this year, and is titled: Tales of Vesperia — The First Strike.
The movie is set before the settings of the game, so there isn’t really a need for anyone to know the story of the game in order to watch the movie.
Tales of Vesperia — (Xbox 360, PS3) – Japanese OP
Tales of Vesperia — English OP
Personally speaking, I feel that Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Vesperia’s OP stands out from the rest. I don’t know, but these OPs are rather attractive to me for some reason.
I’ve played a couple of Tales games before, with Vesperia being the most recent one.
There’s actually 2 more Tales games coming out, one of which is Tales of Grace which is slated for the Nintendo Wii. You check out some of the features in this link.
After a whole load of showcasing of the different opening, which Tales game have you guys played before and which opening do you like best?
