Teacher reprimanded for slapping 41 students for eating snacks

Oh dear…I don’t think he’s gonna make it >_<

An unnamed teacher was formally reprimanded by the Board of Education in Fukuoka City yesterday for slapping a total of 41 fifth grade elementary school students on April 27 after they failed to follow a very simple rule ; To eat snacks distributed by the teachers ONLY.

Read more inside!

The location of the school is somewhere in Jonan Ward, Fukuoka. Apparently, the school set up the rule that only snacks distributed by the teachers may be eaten. But many students were found to consume other snacks they brought to school themselves.

And the number is definitely more than 41 students munching away on outside snacks, but only those 41 were slapped by their teacher. The students unlucky enough to be caught by that particular teacher were in a group gym class. He was also said to repeatedly told them that it is impossible for them to have gym classes for they are not obeying the rules.

He then get all the students who had eaten outside snacks to stand and line up, before moving along the line, slapping each of them once on their cheeks. Of course, no kiddos were injured in the process, so that’s why he got off lightly for this incident.

In respond to the Board of Education, he told the board that he lost his cool when nearly half the fifth grade failed to follow the rules set for the excursion.

I know the saying that “Rules are meant to be followed” and “Rules are meant to be broken”…But I sometimes do wonder if people actually think about what kind of rules should be followed, and what kind of rules should be broken.

Take this incident for example, a stupid rule that says students can only enjoy the snacks given by their teachers…Nothing else. It sounds pretty stupid to me. I mean…What is an excursion? Where are they going? It’s not like they are going to some nuclear facility, then that is a different case. But for a normal excursion as this, why should they even be restricted by this stupid rule?

This shows how inflexible we have become. Now, do you dare say that you would litter the floor because it sounds stupid to be inconsiderate? I bet you won’t, since you would be fined. But let’s say that one day…A new law state that we have to clean our front door daily, would you dare say that you wouldn’t even clean it at all, since it just gets dirty in a while? I guess you would.

There are times for different rules and laws to be followed, and for some of them to be broken. It’s fine to get angry when people choose to ignore them, but I do wish people would think about whether or not they are needed in that situation in the first place.

41 students? As a person who is planning to be a teacher, I must say that I frown at the thought of slapping 41 students…..My hand would start to hurt after about 25….
