The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Live-Action Trailer Released!

If you’ve enjoyed the animation movie for “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”, then you must absolutely watch this particular trailer. Yahoo! Movies Japan is now streaming a two minutes promotional video for the movie, which is scheduled to make it’s debut in March next year.

Although both the live-action and animation movie shares the same name, it must be noted that the live-action movie is somewhat considered as a sequel to the animation movie, as the story focuses on the daughter of Kazuko, the heroine from the animation movie.

Played by actress Riisa Naka — who had also played the role of Kazuko’s voice in the animation movie –,18-year-old Akari Yoshiyama, the only daughter of the novel’s heroine Kazuko will leapt through time back into the 1974 to find her mother’s first lover after her mother had met with an unfortunate car accident which sent her into a coma.

If you’re interested, you can also check out the trailer in this link. Please note that you’ll need a streaming enable media player (e.g Windows Media Player) in order to run this file!

Absolutely stunning and amazing if you ask me. It’s a must watch, even for those who aren’t familiar with the animation movie. However, despite the trailer, I would really wonder how the live-action movie would turn out, as the animation movie definitely set a high standard for the live-action movie to meet…

This is actually the third live-action movie adaptation of “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” – The first, in 1982 starring Harada Tomoyo, was one of most popular movies of the 1980s. There was a 1997 remake, also directed by Kadokawa Haruki. There were also a live-action TV series starring Uchida Yuki, and even a made-for-TV movie with the Morning Musume cast. Like the anime, however, this version develops an original plot rather than remaking the earlier versions.
