Project DIVA was successful. Extremely successful. Coupled with the mad skills of the artists over at Nico Nico, it seems that SEGA has finally given the series a serious thought and decided to move it to the arcades.
If you don’t know what’s Project DIVA about, I highly suggest you drop over this post and have a read on it!
While there isn’t much information as of how the game would be like (since SEGA is still pretty tight lipped on that) it is confirmed that the Project DIVA that would be arriving on most Japanese arcades would definitely be a rhythm game. While everything will be more or less the same with the PSP version, there’s one extremely unique feature that would be appearing in Project DIVA.
Not exactly a feature as per say, but it’s still something that all Vocaloid fans should take note of. SEGA is calling for any Vocaloid artists to display their talent with the upcoming arcade game, as they are starting to open up their track list for the game in a fashion where everyone can participate!
How PD plays, and how it generally looks like.
Basically, all artists are allowed to contribute their own songs to the game. When successfully picked by the SEGA Team, these songs will be added to the arcade version of the game and the creator of the song will be allowed to have a play-testing session somewhere in January 2010. There are restrictions, however, as all the songs that are contributed must be at least 2:30 in length, up to a maximum of 3:30. Other than that, songs that are contributed should not be remixes or variation of existing songs, although both pro and amateur artists are welcomed.
The contest will take place soon at the Project DIVA Nico Nico Channel, starting from 15th October this month, all the way to the 31th. Successful artists will have their songs featured in the game (as stated above), as well as winning some attractive Vocaloid goodies, although it’s not really known what the prizes are as of now. You can also check the above mentioned channel for some teaser clips about the upcoming game.
Other than songs, it seems that the people at Piapro (portal for Vocaloid CGM) had also started a costume design contest of sorts. Members of the public can submit their own designs for Project DIVA, and winners will have their works published on the arcade version itself. You can check out more details via Kyouran Kyodai or the official site for PD of Piapro.

Promotional video, although there isn’t much information at that point of time…
I wonder if they are kind enough to give the artists an arcade cabinet of their own…
