Have shown you a bit of the Pasar Malam before, but ever wonder how they get their goods to the place? They simply pack everything into a van. They usually stuff it all the way up to the van roof.

A nice, sweet drink- Sirap Bandung. Tastes a bit like liquid syrup.

A friend, working as a promoter for Haagen Dazs, ends up with a whole lot of (promotion) samples that he got to take home. If you can be bothered, you can read about his job here.

Helped out in a meeting about the D.O.P.E. test, and got myself a box of Vochelle chocolates as an unexpected reward. ^^

Went to a famous mamak store in my area. The “Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar”. This restaurant has even made it to Melbourne. It’s a fantastic restaurant, and I recommend this place if you like Indian food.

Lots of football (soccer) fans were gathered to watch the match between Manchester United and Chelsea.

Have never tried this before… Frog porridge, anyone? Or perhaps some frog noodles?

If you want to have good western food, you don’t necessarily have to go to the expensive restaurants, like San Fransisco Steakhouse. In the Taman Desa Food Court, you can find nice western food too, like this black-pepper steak - only RM13, and it tastes delicious.

An aunt came back from Australia, and brought back lots of chocolate. Have never seen that “Chocolate Overload” Kit-Kat before..

The MidValley I keep talking about- The mall is divided into, “North Court,” “Center Court,” and “South Court.”

Just before Iron Man, I see this movie poster that made me laugh quite a bit.. It’s a horror movie titled, “Congkak“.

After watching Iron Man (which, btw, is a must watch), the “leader” of our group started to play with this machine, and soon got everyone involved.

If you don’t know what it does, you simply put your hand on the machine, or let your index finger and middle finger touch those circles at the bottom. Insert 20 sen, and wait for the red light on top to stop moving, and where it stops is “how passionate you are.” Rankings are: Dead fish; Old fashioned; Warm; Sensual; Passionate; Hot Stuff; and WICKED.

After the movie, it’s off for dinner, and after much indecisiveness among the group, we agreed on Teppanyaki.

At the arcade- Lots of versus games, as you can see. More than half of the games found in the arcade here are Japanese.

One thing I never understood about the arcade is…

Why have sudoku?

Had a pretty boring uneventful week,but will do this post anyway.

Last Sunday, there was a sunrise service in my church. Every year, on Easter, the service starts early in the morning (somewhere around 6 AM), and ends with breakfast.

They bring in tables, and put a nuclear-powered light on each.

Breakfast this year was Nasi Lemak and some kuih.

Doing some plasticine work. Will reveal it in due time.

Grandmother’s birthday dinner- a typical Chinese meal where one gets a plate of rice, then takes the dishes as one pleases.

There were many umbrellas, but no space to leave them, so it gets stacked up.

Saw this guy playing with a fishing rod- immediately thought of this. (NSFW)

Another goreng pisang stall.

Chicken rice for dinner- It’s chicken, with rice (and cucumber).

Moar dead animals.

Lunch at Nando’s with a couple of friends. I seem to be going there quite often lately.

Didn’t have the house key, so had to wait for the key to arrive. Was so ronery lonely.

Like I mentioned- it was an uneventful week. During these “uneventful” days, I busied myself with anime and Cabal, and didn’t do -that- much for the blog. Will need to re-set my goals.

BTW- I had 0% chance to have more Malaysian foods in my diet this week.

Week in Malaysia 2

I’ve pointed it out before, but non-tourist locations usually get the “Tidak apa” (doesn’t matter) treatment. This back alley would be an example.

Roti canai for breakfast at a mamak. This be at Kedai Makan DEEN. (lit. Food store DEEN)

After church it’s off to Sri Neela’s for lunch. Moar Indian food. This be banana leaf. You pay for any side dish that you order. It’s in the Taman Desa area (not sure where exactly) and is close to the food court there. Worth a try if you’re there, but watch out for their service- it’s not too good.

Here’s something you definitely want to try if you’re going to Sri Neela’s. A cucumber shake.

Tastes very much like liquid cucumber. ^^;
But it’s very refreshing, so I do recommend it.

If you’re a hater of cucumbers, fear not, for there are still normal drinks, like Milo Ais (I should do some adverts for Milo, since I talk about them so much).

Their drinks have a very smooth consistency, and the taste isn’t kurang (lacking) at all.

Monday it’s cleaning, then Tuesday and it’s off to work.

My dad’s messy office and printers.

After a long day of work, it’s off for dinner. The Tung po (pronounced TOHng pou) fish my dad ordered was really good. Too bad I didn’t get the same. This be at Mee Yoke Lim, where the (almost) landmark Cheow Yang used to be.

Wednesday and it’s out early in the morning to send my brother for his driving class. The instructor had told him to be at the place by 7 AM, but when we did get there, the place was locked, so we had to wait in the car.

Waited for quite a while, as the sky went from dark to bright. ^^;

After the guy arrives, we drop my brother off and head for the market to get my party stuffs. More on the market in another post.

Come evening and it’s party all the way through ’til 9 PM. Did some pretty crazy things.

BTW- they’re not really kissing.

After the party, it’s off to a mamak for some drinks. This be Ajimal’s. They have good Tom Yum here.

Thursday, and it’s back to work.

Thursday is also the day the pasar malam opens near my house, so we went for a visit. More on that in another post.

Friday- had to finish up a job ASAP, so went down the office to a rather crummy place for lunch. Down there, it’s chap farn (lit. mixed rice) for lunch. They give you a plate of rice, and you pick your own dishes.

I’m a sucker when it comes to these kind of things, so I always end up eating something simple. This time would be fried chicken, a little bit of curry, and rice.

Then it’s a nice mug of Carlsberg beer (not).

After work, it’s back home, then off to the weekly meeting.

Taking an LRT down to the place. Every LRT is a different advertisement for a different company. Do they make trains into advertisements in your region?

From the LRT, everything looks dark. Just a few lights here and there.

After the meeting, it’s back home and I drop dead on the bed.

Note to Danny, sorry I couldn’t feature more Malaysian foods. Didn’t really get the chance to eat them. ^^;

A Week in Malaysia

Author: Chong Mizunaga
03 1st, 2008

Had mentioned I was going to do this last week.. so here it is. ^^

This post shows a little of what a week in my life is like in Malaysia. Had originally intended to post much more pictures, but realized today that it was too much, so I’m going to be breaking those down into seperate posts. It’s my first time doing it, so if I’m not good, let me know why and I’ll do better next time.

Anyway, I start off at PJ Old Town, at around 8:30 PM. Was having dinner with my uncle from the UK at Restaurant Heng Kee. (Didn’t manage to get a picture of the food, since I forgot. lol)

Then it’s off to a friend’s house to collect some stuff. Has an incredible amount of unused electronics.

You’ll see lots of rubbish piled up carelessly along the roads. Tourist areas and some busy areas (like shopping malls) are kept clean though. Sadly, the rubbish will be staying there until much later, as our “clean up force” is very ineffecient.

On the last Sunday of the month, I help out in the “Children’s church” as somewhat of an “IT guy.”

Saw this at One Utama. Now we know what knights look like during their free time.

A tree collapsed onto a car. The weird thing is, there was neither strong wind, nor any rain. Old age?

At another dinner, a politician was going around from table to table greeting the people and securing votes. When he came to our table, my uncle started questioning him ^^;

Has been pretty jammed along Old Klang Road these days.. anyone know why?

Off to a mamak for breakfast. (Mamak is a slang word for any 24-hour restraunt run by an Indian)

Was crossing the over-head bridge when I recalled not seeing any over-head bridges in the US. Probably because the people there are nice enough to stop for you to cross. Are there over-head bridges in your region?

This is another fairly common sight in Malaysia- roadside stalls selling stuff like goreng pisang. (Fried banana) Makes for a good snack.

Elections are coming, and the political parties start spamming banners all over the place. They’re supposed to have a budget of RM 30,000 to promote (I think), but they always go overboard and explain it as being “sponsored.”

A morning walk- Noticed that some cars don’t bother to signal just because it’s early in the morning. If you’re coming to Malaysia, you might wanna watch out for snatch-thieves too.

Lunch with some friends at Nando’s, Citrus Park (OUG). Love their spicy sauce and chicken. Definitely recommended. Do you have a Nando’s restraunt near you?

Another common sight- Game stores (which mostly sell pirated games). Didn’t spot any MiWi at Citrus Park, but saw some at One Utama. More pirated game consoles later.

Another stall- this one in the alley. Might wanna avoid eating too much from these stalls. They’re not usually very clean ^^;

Friday night and it’s off for a weekly meeting.

Then I spend my Saturday doing miscellaneous stuff.

That, is a bit of what my week in Malaysia is like. Will be doing this again, but won’t be giving a heads up ^^;
